If I join, do I have to race?

Uhhh… ok. So are there 7 teams, or 1 team, or… what. I don’t get it.
On practice days we ride together as one GIGANTIC family. We're all HRJC to the core. If you choose to join the high school racing team, you will race under your school's colors/jersey. Don't worry if this all seems overwhelming, we're here to help arrange jerseys, bibs, registration and anything else you'll need to have a fun season!
I go to a charter/online/private/home school. Can I still join?
Yes. If you decide to race, you will wear the colors of your home school.
I’m involved in other sports, is that ok?
Anyone and everyone is welcome to join HRJC. No matter your cycling skills, gender, age or physical aptitude, we have a spot ready for you on our team. Other sport participation is encouraged to avoid burn-out and develop complimentary skills. Never played a sport before? No problem!!
What does HRJC do?
We get kids on bikes, organize fun practices, and sometimes go to races! HRJC is run by a volunteer board who helps facilitate the best possible experience for all of our riders and their families. We can't do what we do without the help of hours of volunteers throughout the season. If you plan to ride with us, we expect you to lead by example, show the highest level of character on and off the trails, and help out as much as you can during practice, races and events. Parents are strongly encourages to participate in volunteering. If you're unsure where you can help, hit the contact link at the top of this page and we'll let you know!
Is this a “real” high school sport?
CHSAA recognizes high school mountain bike racing as a sport, but high school mountain biking is not an official CHSAA sport. However, we have had the pleasure of awarding hundreds of athletes a varsity letter, recognized by their high school no differently than traditional high school sports. We recommend discussing your student athlete with your school as we cannot determine any changes/regulations that may change at your specific high school.
Who runs HRJC?
Coach Scott is our Executive Director and Head Coach. We also have an awesome board of directors. However, the team runs because of a team of dedicated parents, volunteers and coaches.
What are the general costs?
Costs vary depending on what program you select. Feel free to reach to us and we can discuss some options for you or your student athlete to participate. Scholarships for registrations and equipment are also available to remove financial barriers to participation.
